What Parents and Kids Can Do to Stay Safe at San Diego’s Beaches by John nixon
San Diego has 60 miles of coastline where the Pacific Ocean meets the sand.
Millions of guests visit the County’s beaches each year for a day (or two) of sun and fun.
A child uses muscles more than usual to move freely in the weightless environment of water without any restrictions. This condition enables the child to develop more flexible joints and increased muscle tone and strength. Regular swimming practice improves appetite and sleep in children. The movements they apply in water provide better exercise to their muscles and especially overweight children finds swimming to be an easier exercise than any other exercises. Swim lessons for kids provide children the basic lessons on how to improve self confidence while swimming. Confident swimmers can make themselves stay healthy and fit. It is must to take swimming classes since swimming is different from getting used to water.
Admitting in swimming classes for kids can help teach your child vital safety tips for water which helps save themselves or someone else's life in the future. The first thing taught in these swim classes make the child feel safe. If the child is afraid to face falling into the water then it cannot concentrate enough to try to swim. Let them wear floaters if they are a starter to get rid of fear and feel safe in water. This is the best swim practice that will help keep your child feel safe around water. In infant swim classes you teach the toddlers always to swim toward the wall, hold on to it and climb to safety. These skills are important for a child who accidentally falls into the pond, because they are able to swim to the edge and climb out to safety. Swimming classes for toddlers also help children learn to float on his back, which is useful for those who get tired of swimming.
To ensure the safety of your children on the beach and in the water, here are 10 tips for parents to know about and discuss with their children as they get prepared to have fun at the beach:
1.Know how to swim before attempting to navigate the ocean
Parents should enroll children in swimming classes prior to vacation. For example, Murray Callan Swim Schools in Carlsbad/San Marcos and Pacific Beach have taught over 100,000 local youngsters how to swim during their 60-year history.
2.Swim near a lifeguard
Be safe! Lifeguards are experts whose job is saving lives. Unless you, too, are an expert, swim near a lifeguard.
3.Never swim alone
Buddy-up with a partner and watch out for each other"especially when there’s no lifeguard on duty.
4.Obey posted signs
Signs and flags alert you to ocean safety conditions. Always know where you are and the obstacles in that part of the ocean.
5.Don’t turn your back on the ocean
Always face forward, especially during high tide. Getting caught in a powerful undercurrent or knocked over by a wave is a by-product of ocean swimming.
6.Know how to get away from rip currents.
Most lifeguard rescues are a result of the powerful pull of the ocean waves toward deeper water. To get out of a rip current, swim parallel to the shore until you are out of the current. Then, swim safely back to the beach.
7.Don’t dive into the ocean
The leading cause of head and neck injuries is a result of people diving into the ocean. Diving head first into the ocean is a surefire way to get smacked around by waves.
8.Use sunscreen
Sunscreen protects you from sunburn and skin cancer. Always re-apply after swimming in the water.
9.Watch your feet
Flip flops and sandals protect the soles of your feet from heat, broken glass and trash. Walking barefoot is asking for a potential foot injury.
10.Avoid drinking and drugging
Alcohol and drugs impair your judgment and increase your risk for injury. Alcohol plays a role in drowning because it lowers your body temperature and weakens your swimming ability.
